As Soy Connext 2025 concluded, Jim Sutter, CEO of the U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC), reflected on the event’s success and highlighted key insights shaping the future of U.S. Soy. The annual gathering brought together global trade teams, U.S. farmers, and industry stakeholders for several days of networking, discussions, and innovation.
Sutter identified three major takeaways from the conference. First, he emphasized that global trade is far from stagnant; it is evolving. Despite ongoing challenges like tariffs, demographic shifts, geopolitical tensions, and inflation, U.S. Soy is well-positioned for growth. Rising global demand for food and calories, combined with the enduring principles of comparative advantage, support stable trade prospects for American soy in the coming decade.
Second, Sutter highlighted the unique “extras” that set U.S. Soy apart. Nutritional benefits in U.S.-grown soybean meal enhance animal health and strengthen returns for producers, while the sustainability of American soy creates increasing demand in international markets. These factors, he noted, continue to differentiate U.S. Soy and drive its global appeal.
Finally, Sutter stressed the value of personal connections in fostering business. While digital tools are useful, in-person interactions remain critical for building strong relationships. Soy Connext facilitated these connections through receptions, extended networking breaks, and the Trade Team Invitational, a fast-paced “speed dating” format connecting international trade teams with U.S. Soy businesses.
Sutter extended gratitude to all participants, including USSEC’s allied and export class members, USDA Foreign Agricultural Service partners, 59 trade teams from around the world, and U.S. Soy farmers who hosted visits and shared their expertise. He also recognized the USSEC team for organizing the event and bringing Soy Connext to life.
Looking ahead, Sutter expressed excitement for next year’s Soy Connext 2026, scheduled for August 5-7 in Chicago, promising another round of innovation, networking, and global engagement for the U.S. Soy industry.
