Amandus Kahl was founded in 1876 in Hamburg under the name Wendte & Kahl. In its early years, the company focused on the manufacture of stoves and ovens. A key step in its development was the acquisition of an iron foundry in the nearby town of Stade, which enabled in-house production and laid the groundwork for its later specialization in mill and plant construction.
For many years, the company operated from multiple locations. Sales, design and development activities were based in Hamburg, while production took place in Stade and, later, Hamburg. In 1965, the company underwent a major structural change with its relocation to Reinbek. This move brought administration, engineering, design and production together at a single site for the first time, forming the basis of the production facility that remains in operation today. Since then, the Reinbek site has been expanded and modernized on an ongoing basis. Covering approximately five hectares, it now serves as the central location of the KAHL Group.
The company gained international recognition through the development of the flat-die pellet mill, first introduced in the mid-1920s. This technology continues to be a central part of Amandus Kahl’s product range. Over time, the pellet mill has been adapted to meet changing industrial requirements, including different throughput capacities and product characteristics. It is used in various sectors, including feed and biomass processing, recycling, and food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
In addition to pellet mills, Amandus Kahl’s portfolio includes expanders, extruders, pan grinder mills, crushing roller mills, dryers, coolers and fluidized bed plants. The company supplies both individual machines and complete turnkey production lines.
Amandus Kahl is the flagship company of the KAHL Group, which consists of nine companies operating in different industrial fields and employing around 900 people. The group’s development included the acquisition of Neuhaus Neotec in 1990, expanding its capabilities in process engineering and plant construction. The company operates its own pilot plant, where raw materials can be tested, formulations developed and process parameters defined for industrial applications.
Marking its 150th anniversary, Amandus Kahl continues its operations with a focus on engineering development, manufacturing and the supply of process technology solutions for a range of industries.
