ADM (NYSE: ADM), one of the global leaders in human and animal nutrition, has strengthened its position in the milling industry with the opening of its new Central Milling Laboratory at the ADM Specialty Manufacturing Facility in Decatur, Illinois. The facility marks a major step forward in ADM’s efforts to enhance product quality, innovation, and collaboration across its North American milling network.
Equipped with advanced analytical tools and testing technologies, the new laboratory receives wheat that is milled, analyzed, and baked on-site to replicate real-world baking conditions. Each day, ADM’s experts bake around 30 loaves of bread, using the results to evaluate flour performance and ensure the company consistently sources the highest-quality wheat for its customers.
Located near ADM’s North American Headquarters, the facility works closely with the company’s Research & Development and Creation, Design and Development (CD&D) centers, enabling closer collaboration between technical teams. The lab currently supports 31 ADM facilities across North America, providing a centralized hub for data sharing, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Tedd Kruse, President of Milling & Baking Solutions at ADM, highlighted the strategic importance of the new lab:
“This new lab shows our commitment to growing our quality testing capabilities and it serves as a continued investment in the Decatur community,” Kruse said. “It strengthens our ability to collaborate with customers to meet evolving market needs and accelerates innovation across our milling network.”
Beyond its technical functions, the Central Milling Laboratory represents ADM’s long-term investment in Decatur, reinforcing its role as a vital center for research, quality, and community growth. The facility embodies ADM’s mission — unlocking the power of nature to enrich the quality of life — while ensuring that every product begins with precision, expertise, and the finest grain.
