GrainGrowers Ltd, which represents grain growers in Australia, has appointed Richard Norton, a well-known figure in the sector, as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Norton will take up his post on 17 November.
Norton has previously held the position of Managing Director at Landmark Operations and Meat & Livestock Australia, and served as Managing Director at Elders Farm Supplies Network. He has also served on the boards of Agrium Asia Pacific, Australasian Global Exports and Prime Safe Victoria. Currently an independent board member at GrainGrowers Ltd, Norton will resign from this role before taking up his position as CEO.
Rhys Turton, Chair of the GrainGrowers Board, highlighted Norton’s proven track record of success in the agricultural sector and his leadership skills. Turton stated that, with regional farmers’ organisations now able to join GrainGrowers, they aim to be more effective in their dealings with policymakers.
Turton said that Norton would strengthen the organisation’s advocacy work and that the board would reshape its strategy. Turton thanked the outgoing CEO, Shona Gawel, for her successful tenure and the team she had built.
