A rumen-protected lysine solution enhances nitrogen efficiency whilst providing targeted amino acid nutrition and is GMO-free
Evonik has expanded its product portfolio for ruminants by launching Lypron®, a rumen-protected lysine solution. The product was developed to support targeted amino acid nutrition and efficient, balanced feeding strategies in modern livestock production.
Lypron® was developed in collaboration with Sipena, a French company specialising in coating technologies. Sipena will exclusively manufacture the product on behalf of Evonik. Lypron® aims to ensure the optimal utilisation of nutrients and support high performance in ruminants by delivering metabolisable lysine precisely where it is needed.
Lysine plays a critical role in performance as one of the most limiting amino acids in ruminant nutrition. With its high and reliable content of metabolisable lysine, Lypron® enables producers to balance rations more precisely in terms of amino acids. This reduces the need for expensive protein sources whilst increasing profitability.
Marion Hax, Head of the Specialised Nutrition Product Line at Evonik Animal Nutrition, stated that they have expanded their range of solutions for ruminants with Lypron® to complement established products such as Mepron®. Hax noted that the completion of the amino acid balancing concept supports customers in achieving both higher performance and more sustainable feeding strategies.
Low-protein rations and environmental benefits
By improving the amino acid balance in the ration, Lypron® supports the use of low-protein rations, thereby optimising nitrogen utilisation. This helps to reduce nitrogen emissions, enabling farms to maintain productivity whilst minimising their environmental impact.
Claudia Parys, Global Head of Ruminant Business at Evonik Animal Nutrition, stated that Lypron® helps nutritionists to optimise amino acid supply, increase productivity and reduce reliance on excessive dietary protein. Parys emphasised that this is becoming increasingly important from both an economic and environmental perspective.
Lypron® enables more flexible feeding strategies, including applications such as low-protein and reduced-soya rations. As a non-GMO solution, the product supports the fulfilment of market requirements in regions where non-GMO production is mandatory, whilst maintaining high performance standards.
