DairyKind, UC Davis CLEAR Center, and Alltech have collaborated to produce two educational videos aimed at clarifying the concept of sustainability in cattle production. One video is presented in English and the other in Spanish, increasing accessibility and providing an educational resource for Spanish-speaking audiences across the industry.
While “sustainability” is widely used in the agricultural sector, it is often misunderstood or interpreted inconsistently. The videos offer a science-based, accessible resource to help producers, industry professionals, and other stakeholders understand sustainability in the context of daily cattle operations. They can be integrated into training programs, used as standalone learning tools, or incorporated into onboarding and staff development in dairy and beef operations across the United States.
Michelle Schack, DVM, of DairyKind, said, “Sustainability may sound like a high-level goal, but it is implemented by the men and women working with cattle every day. Our training programs focus on helping employees understand not just what to do, but why it matters. These videos provide a clear, science-based foundation that connects broad sustainability concepts to everyday practices.”
CLEAR Center Director Frank Mitloehner added, “The people caring for animals on farms and ranches are at the heart of sustainability. When we invest in, educate, and empower them, we strengthen farms and ranches not just for today, but for future generations. This video highlights that sustainability is not just about numbers or requirements—it’s about the people making responsible decisions every day that support agriculture for the future.”
Jorge Delgado of the Alltech On-Farm Support People+ program, which focuses on training and talent development for dairy workers, said, “Our dairy and beef workers are often the unsung heroes of our industry, yet they are a critical pillar of true sustainability. While sustainability discussions often emphasize environmental and economic factors, it is essential to recognize and value the people caring for animals daily. This video aims to give these dedicated individuals a voice, empowering them as integral contributors to a more sustainable future. Our collaboration with UC Davis and DairyKind comes at a critical time, helping workers see that they are part of the bigger picture: feeding the nation.”
The videos are available on the CLEAR Center YouTube channel under the titles The Farmers Behind a Sustainable Future and Los agricultores detrás de un futuro sostenible. They will also be featured on DairyKind’s platform, dairykind.com, and incorporated into the Alltech On-Farm Support training modules.
