The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) will take part in the 30th Conference of Parties (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, by hosting a dedicated panel discussion on sustainable feed production and its role in reducing the environmental footprint of animal agriculture.
Titled “Feeding the Future: Climate-Smart Strategies for a Sustainable Global Feed Industry,” the session will take place on November 15 at 2 p.m. GMT-3 within the newly established AgriZone (Auditorium A4). The event is organized in collaboration with Sindirações, Brazil’s national feed industry association, and the International Feed Industry Federation (IFIF).
As part of the inaugural AgriZone—an initiative sponsored by Embrapa (the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation)—the AFIA panel will be among roughly 400 free events scheduled between November 10 and 21 to promote sustainable agriculture and innovation.
The discussion will bring together global feed industry leaders to examine how the sector supports sustainability and climate goals within livestock production systems. Topics will include innovation adaptation, policy development, incentives, and international cooperation to enhance feed efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of animal protein production.
“The ‘Feeding the Future’ panel is an exciting way to be represented at COP30,” said Mallory Gaines, AFIA’s Director of Global Affairs. “Animal feed is a sustainable solution that supports the animal protein sector in achieving its climate-smart goals. The efficiency provided by high-quality feed ingredients in a nutritionally balanced diet is a primary step in reducing animal agriculture’s climate impact.”
Panel discussions will highlight the pivotal role of feed in promoting animal health, improving resource efficiency, and contributing to global food security by supporting the production of safe, nutrient-dense meat, milk, eggs, and fish. Insights and key takeaways from the event will help shape ongoing industry dialogue, guide future research priorities, and strengthen climate action efforts across livestock value chains.
In addition to moderating the AFIA session, Mallory Gaines will also join another panel titled “From Pasture to Plate: Continuous Improvement Practices, Progress, and Pathways in Animal Agriculture,” scheduled for November 12 at 12 p.m. GMT-3 in the Action on Food Hub Pavilion.
AFIA’s participation underscores the organization’s commitment to advancing sustainable feed production and fostering global collaboration toward a more climate-resilient food system.
