A high-level World Bank delegation met with Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture today to discuss the implementation of the Digital Agriculture Roadmap (DAR), a strategic initiative aimed at transforming Kenya's agricultural sector through technology adoption.
The visiting team, led by Dr. Parmesh Shah, Global Lead for Data, Digital Agriculture and Innovations at the World Bank, included senior agriculture economists and digital agriculture specialists. The discussions focused on leveraging digital innovations to enhance agricultural productivity, improve market access for farmers, and strengthen the country's food systems.
During the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed the Kenyan government's commitment to the Digital Agriculture Roadmap as a key component of its agricultural transformation agenda. "This partnership with the World Bank is crucial in our efforts to modernize agriculture and improve livelihoods across rural Kenya," the CS stated.
The Digital Agriculture Roadmap represents a comprehensive approach to integrating technology into Kenya's farming sector. Key focus areas include deploying digital tools for smallholder farmers, developing e-agriculture platforms to connect producers with markets, and implementing data-driven solutions to enhance climate resilience.
Dr. Shah emphasized the World Bank's continued support for Kenya's agricultural digitization efforts, noting that technological innovation could significantly boost productivity while making the sector more sustainable and climate-resilient.
This collaboration aligns with Kenya's broader economic development strategy, particularly the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda which prioritizes agricultural modernization as a driver of inclusive growth. The meeting concluded with both parties expressing optimism about the transformative potential of digital technologies in revolutionizing Kenya's agricultural landscape.
