The Government of the Republic of Moldova has approved amendments to the quality requirements for meat preparations and products, as part of a broader initiative led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry to modernize the regulatory framework in the agri-food sector.
The new regulations aim to provide greater clarity and predictability in the production and marketing processes of meat products. By updating outdated provisions and aligning the framework with current legislation, the Government seeks to establish transparent and enforceable standards for economic operators, while enhancing consumer protection.
Key changes include clearer rules on product composition, labeling, and marketing practices. In addition, the updated framework introduces new concepts and adjusts certain physico-chemical indicators, streamlining procedures for producers and improving overall industry efficiency.
A major component of the amendments focuses on food safety. The draft legislation includes stricter requirements regarding the sterility of canned meat products, the quality of water used in processing, and the types of materials permitted for packaging. These updates aim to align Moldova’s practices with international food safety standards and strengthen public health protection.
Producers will be granted a three-month transition period from the date of publication in the Official Gazette to adapt their labels, recipes, and internal processes in accordance with the new requirements.
This measure reflects the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to raise the quality and competitiveness of Moldovan agri-food products, while fostering greater consumer trust in domestically produced meat items.
