Al Dahra Agriculture Trading (ADAT), based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC) have activated a five-year wheat supply agreement. The total value of the agreement is expected to reach up to $500 million over the five-year period.
Signed on August 26 at the Cabinet’s General Headquarters in El Alamein, Egypt, the agreement brings into effect the strategic cooperation framework established between the two countries in 2023. Under the agreement, imported wheat will be supplied to GASC.
The supply programme will be implemented under an existing financing programme supported by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX). ADEX stated that its financing solutions would help facilitate trade and strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
The signing ceremony was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Supply and Internal Trade and Chairman of GASC, Dr. Sherif Mohamed Farouk, and Khadim Abdullah Al Darei, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Al Dahra.
In a statement, Al Dahra said the agreement represents an important step towards strengthening long-term supply and cooperation aimed at securing access to essential food commodities.
Supported by ADEX financing, the arrangement establishes a long-term mechanism for Egypt’s imported wheat supply while also seeking to develop trade between the UAE and Egypt.
The agreement comes at a time when Egypt continues to require significant volumes of imported wheat. It is expected to contribute to the development of long-term cooperation between the two countries in agricultural and food trade.
