The first meeting of the China-Singapore Working Group on Agricultural Cooperation was successfully held in Beijing, co-chaired by China’s Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Zhang Zhili, and Singapore’s Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, Stanley Loh Ka Leung.
The meeting marked a significant step forward in the agricultural partnership between the two nations. Vice Minister Zhang highlighted the progress made in recent years, including the establishment of structured cooperation mechanisms, advancements in science and technology exchange, and steady growth in economic and trade relations within the agricultural sector.
Vice Minister Zhang also provided a detailed overview of China’s ongoing strategies to manage major animal diseases such as African Swine Fever, and shared China’s achievements in green and efficient vegetable production practices. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to expanding the scope of bilateral cooperation, particularly in supporting Singapore’s efforts to enhance food security and supply chain resilience through agricultural science and technology innovation.
Permanent Secretary Loh expressed appreciation to the Chinese side for hosting the inaugural session and commended the positive outcomes of China-Singapore agricultural collaboration in recent years. He emphasized Singapore’s intention to deepen cooperation in key areas including animal health, aquaculture, and vegetable production. Additionally, Loh conveyed Singapore’s interest in increasing imports of safe, high-quality agricultural products from China.
Both sides reaffirmed their dedication to implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in agriculture and food security, aiming to elevate their partnership and contribute to regional food system sustainability.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continued dialogue and collaboration in advancing mutual agricultural goals.
