The American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) has announced the appointment of Cornelia Poku as its new director of communications. In this role, she will lead the development and execution of strategic communications for both AFIA and the Institute for Feed Education and Research (IFEEDER).
Poku brings more than a decade of communications experience spanning agriculture, health care, and the nonprofit sector. Her expertise will support AFIA’s mission to advance the animal food industry and strengthen the sector’s visibility in key national conversations.
“We are thrilled to welcome Cornelia to the AFIA team,” said Victoria Broehm, AFIA’s vice president of member experience. “Her depth of communications experience across agriculture, health care and nonprofits, combined with her strategic mindset and passion for storytelling, demonstrate that she will be invaluable in our mission to amplify the industry’s voice in the conversations that matter most.”
Poku assumed her position on August 4, succeeding Broehm, who previously held the role. She will also support AFIA’s Marketing and Communications Committee and IFEEDER’s Education and Engagement Committee.
A native of Rockville, Md., Poku earned a bachelor’s degree in public relations from American University and a master’s degree in education from Lesley University. Her professional background includes roles at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization and FGS Global. Most recently, she managed a $3.1 million marketing and communications budget for AmeriCorps Seniors.
Through her leadership, AFIA looks to further strengthen its communications strategy, ensuring the feed industry’s perspectives are represented and its contributions to agriculture are widely recognized.
