As part of a transformative initiative to modernize the country’s agriculture sector, a second batch of 100 young agricultural professionals is set to embark on a six-month training program in China. The cohort departed on July 20, 2025, via a special PIA chartered flight, bound for Southwest University of Science and Technology, where they will receive advanced training in crop breeding and genomics.
This flagship initiative, designed to revolutionize Pakistan’s agricultural landscape through the development of human capital, aims to build the capacity of 1,000 agricultural graduates by facilitating their training at leading Chinese universities and institutions. The current group represents Batch-II of the program and will immerse in China's cutting-edge, climate-smart, and technology-driven agricultural practices.
The program is being jointly implemented by key public sector bodies including the Ministry of National Food Security & Research (MNFSR), Higher Education Commission (HEC), Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications (MOITT), the Planning Commission, and Pakistan’s Embassy in Beijing, reflecting a whole-of-government approach to agricultural modernization.
Officials highlighted that the initiative is a strategic investment in human capital, which will yield long-term benefits by transforming the agriculture sector into a more productive, climate-resilient, and export-oriented industry. The collaboration with China reflects a deepening of scientific and technical ties between the two nations and is expected to enhance bilateral cooperation in agricultural research and innovation.
The initiative aligns with Pakistan's broader agenda to strengthen food security, improve rural livelihoods, and integrate advanced technologies into farming practices, thereby paving the way for sustainable growth and rural prosperity.
With Batch-II now en route to China, the program continues to gain momentum as a beacon of hope and opportunity for young agricultural professionals and the sector at large.
