Novonesis to Invest €600 Million in New Enzyme Production Facility in India

Novonesis, a global biosolutions company, will expand its production capacity in India with a €600 million investment to expand its Patalganga site and build a next-generation enzyme production facility.

Located in Maharashtra, the expanded Patalganga site is expected to become fully operational in 2030. The new facility will produce enzymes for a range of industries, including biofuels, household care, and food and beverages.

According to Novonesis, the investment is aimed at increasing production capacity in response to growing global demand for biosolutions, while also strengthening the flexibility and resilience of its global supply network.

Novonesis President and CEO Ester Baiget said the investment represents an important step in the company’s growth strategy and will support its ability to serve customers worldwide.

Expanding the global production network

The Patalganga project is part of a broader programme of investments by Novonesis to strengthen its global production footprint. The company has also expanded facilities in Rayong, Thailand; Franklinton, North Carolina; Taicang, China; Araucaria, Brazil; and West Allis, Wisconsin.

Novonesis said the new facility in India will bring its production network closer to customers in the Middle East, India, and Africa. The company expects these markets to grow faster than developed markets in the coming years.

The investment is also intended to improve operational resilience, production efficiency and supply flexibility. Chief Operating Officer Anders Lund said expanding global production capacity remains a priority as demand for biosolutions increases across industries and regions.

Focus on resource efficiency

The Patalganga facility will incorporate measures designed to reduce water and energy consumption. Freshwater recycling will be used to reduce the amount of water drawn by the site, while integrated heat pumps are expected to lower the energy required for operations.

Novonesis said these measures will support a reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and contribute to its efforts to develop more resource-efficient production facilities.

The company said the Patalganga project incorporates experience gained from its existing production network and forms part of its previously communicated capital expenditure plans.
